The BIG3 will conclude its second season Friday, and the league has been wildly successful, bringing former NBA All-Stars to an arena – or television – near you.

Still, it would be incredible for the league if, say, Kobe Bryant laced up his sneakers next season – which is reportedly a possibility.

Will Bryant, 40, actually play in the BIG3 next season?

“I mean, I don’t know,” BIG3 Founder Ice Cube said on Taz & The Moose. “We’re really not going to know anything until April-May – because we’ve had guys tell us no and end up playing, and we’ve had guys tell us yeah and don’t play. So we really just don’t know until it comes around to that time and guys feel the itch to play, or they don’t.”

Ice Cube was asked how he would approach negotiations with Bryant. Would he roll out the red carpet or play hard-ball?

As it turns out, neither.

“There is no negotiations,” he said. “The thing about the league, everybody pretty much gets the same thing. It’s not like we would reinvent the wheel for anybody. We’ve got a lot of great players. Some guys are Hall of Famers, some guys are champions, All-Stars, first-round picks. So we’re not going to reinvent the wheel for any player, but we do have a great league. What we got to do is continue to grow the league, continue to grow the popularity of the sport, and hopefully we’re attractive enough – not just for Kobe, but there’s a lot of guys that’s out there, and if they still want to play, we got the league for them to play in.”

The league has grown tremendously from year one to year two, and the players deserve a lot of credit for that.

“The guys came back in way better shape ready to go,” Ice Cube said. “They’re taking it as seriously as you can take it. That was a peasant surprise. The first year, guys didn’t really know what to respect. Guys weren’t all the way in shape. So we didn’t know if they were going to come back the same way. But by seeing everybody step their game up, everybody came back a little leaner, a little meaner. We knew, ‘Okay, they’re taking this league serious.’

“What’s cool about the BIG3, there’s no easy wins,” Ice Cube said. “Nobody’s going to walk out there and just get a win. You’re going to have to give maximum effort to even sniff a W out here. So that’s what’s great about the league. It’s not easy. It’s a hard league to play in.”
