Gennady Golovkin’s trainer, Abel Sanchez, dropped by CBS Sports Radio to discuss his fighter’s rematch with Canelo Alvarez this Saturday in Las Vegas.

While Golovkin will do the punching, Sanchez has taken several shots at Alvarez in recent months, even taking him to task for testing positive for steroids.

“My intent was not to allow the fact that he tested positive to be swept under the rug,” Sanchez said on Ferrall on the Bench. “This is a sport that needs to be clean. There’s a lot of lives at stake in this sport, and I didn’t want people to sweep it under the rug like it didn’t happen. It happened. We need to make sure that we control whatever is happening in our sport. If I have to speak up, I have to speak up.”

Alvarez noticed.

“I’ve gotten under his skin,” Sanchez said. “I’ve gotten to the point where he is really bothered by the things that I say, which is great. I think that just gives us another advantage in the fight.”

Golovkin and Alvarez fought last September, with the match ending in a split draw. Sanchez believes Golovkin is the better fighter and will win Saturday.

“He’s undefeated, he had 23 knockouts in a row, he’s making his 21st defense of his title,” Sanchez said. “The other boy’s got a loss. The other boy got manhandled by Cotto. He got manhandled by Lara. So people can think whatever they want. The bottom line is I have the undefeated fighter. I have the champion. Canelo needs to beat the champion. He needs to beat Golovkin. He didn’t beat him the first time, and he’s not going to beat him the second time.”
