Almost one year ago, Boise State beat then-No. 10 San Diego State, 31-14, on the road. The Broncos had a punt return for a touchdown, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and led 21-0 at halftime. It was perhaps their most complete game of the season.

“For sure,” Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien said on The DA Show. “We scored on special teams, our defense played unbelievable, and we were able to run the ball really well that night.”

The Broncos (3-1) will try to beat San Diego State (3-1) again Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.

“San Diego State’s got a great defense,” Rypien said. “You know that every single year coming into it. They’re going to try to keep our offense off the field running the ball, and we have to take our chances when we get them. They’re very unique in the way they’re going to put guys in different places. But at the end of the day, you’re really getting into some base coverages. It’s just really ID’ing who’s going to be the blitzers and knowing where the coverage guys are and what their responsibilities are.”

Rypien has had a great season thus far. He’s completed 70.1 percent of his passes for 1,389 yards, 12 touchdowns, and zero interceptions and has thoroughly enjoyed playing for head coach Bryan Harsin.

“The way Coach Harsin conducts himself, he’s so businesslike,” Rypien said. “Every day he comes in with an attitude of getting better. There’s not a whole lot of joking around and a lot of that going on. I think that’s what really attracted me, and it’s been the same ever since I’ve gotten here. We come in every day with a work-like mentality. We know when to joke and when to kind of turn that on and turn that off a little bit. But the winning tradition, it’s no surprise the way that we work around here.”
